Dwight Powell: Canadian Basketball Star
Early Life and Career
Dwight Harlan Powell (born July 20, 1991) is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born in Toronto, Ontario, and attended Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto for high school. Powell played college basketball for the Stanford Cardinal, and was named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in his senior year.
NBA Career
Powell was selected by the Charlotte Bobcats with the 45th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers on draft night, and then to the Boston Celtics in 2015. Powell signed with the Dallas Mavericks in 2016, and has been with the team ever since. He has become a valuable role player for the Mavericks, averaging 7.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game during the 2020-21 season.
